Quantity Surveyor

Our highly successful renewable energy business has a great opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor, the role will involve supporting our wide range of renewable energy projects which include utility scale solar farms, district heating networks, micro grids and battery storage facilities.
The Quantity Surveyor can be based from one of the following office locations – London Waterloo, Cambridge, Welwyn Garden City or Manchester.
Key activities
- Oversee the set-up of the supply chain in liaison with Procurement department
- Pricing of change through our contract with respect to our clients, our supply chain and subcontractors
- Initial contract reviews and liaison with Equans legal teams and agreement of initial contract through Equans governance processes, through to the execution of the head contracts
- Management and provision of project securities such as PCG’s and Bonds with the management of these through the Equans governance process
- The management of the Equans risk review and monitoring process, compilation of risk matrices and the reporting of these risks to the project team and the Business
- The compilation and reporting of summary commercial data on the projects to the Business, as well working with the project team to assist with any other reports that the business requires to report on the project
- The management of disputes with respect to our Contract with our Client and contractual arrangements with our supply chain and subcontractors
- Preparation and submission of Equans payment applications to our clients, as well as agreeing any payment disputes and managing the WIP and debt levels on the project
- Assessment of subcontractor payments as well as issuing of any contract notifications and certificates for payment, and agreement of final accounts
- Assist with the development and management of short- and long-term forecasts, as well as production of revised Business Forecasts and End of Site reports
- Assist with the production of Earned Value Reports as part of Business Forecasts and End of Site reporting
- Management of Performance Indicators that are measured on the project
- Proficient in the understanding of contractual obligations, under all standard forms of contract
Skills, qualifications & experience
- Must have previous experience within the energy or building services and hold a relevant Quantity Surveyor qualification at HNC/HND or degree level
- Understanding of NEC or FIDIC
- Previous experience of managing and leading teams, with ability to motivate staff essential
- Able to work closely with colleagues across the business, embracing change and new ways of working
- Excellent listening and communication skills, and confident dealing with internal customers and Clients
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft packages and databases

Solutions Manager
EQUANS is looking for a Solutions Manager to join our team in Central London on a hybrid, permanent and full time basis. On offer is a competitive salary of £45,000 - £65,000, company vehicle or allowance and benefits package. Must be open to travel.
The Energy and Carbon Solutions (ECS) consulting division provides an initial engagement that helps shape our new and existing client’s operational plans to deliver their net zero objectives. What differentiates us from many of our competitors in the consulting space is our ability to transition these plans into engineering management programmes through our wider project delivery and operations teams. Our team is therefore composed of commercially minded engineers who are able to create and present attractive solutions that have the potential to be delivered by Equans as a turnkey net zero partner.

What will you deliver?
Accountabilities

Operations and Solutions Achievement –
This is a highly technical position requiring engineering thinking and problem solving to a high degree. The role also requires complex analytical and commercial thinking and will support the development of the client deliverables to agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Undertaking energy audit activities, development, engineering, and conceptual design of energy projects
- Develop complex and dynamic numerical models of engineering and commercial aspects of energy project feasibility
- Ensure compliance with EQUANS quality assurance processes including peer and management review
- Communicate with all stakeholders to brief on submissions as they progress
- Support in delivering profitability and revenue delivery targets for each engagement through proactive time management and efficiency in delivery
- Articulate the key risks and benefits of the opportunity to key stakeholders

Who are we looking for?
Qualifications or Required Experience:
- Technical knowledge of implementing energy solutions, and a firm understanding of building, commercial or industrial and manufacturing engineering services
- Energy related engineering or applied science degree
- At least 3 years of applicable energy and carbon experience with strong interpersonal, presentation and time management skills
- Demonstrated technical and commercial modelling depth in two or more disciplines:
- decarbonisation of heat
- renewable energy

- Confident and articulate in presenting technical and commercial cases to customers at management/decision maker level

Senior Project Manager

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to oversee major renewable EPC projects across the UK. We design, install, commission and operate large scale solar PV farms for our clients. Supplying renewable energy from solar power plants enables local communities to reduce costs and reduce their carbon footprint.

Key Activities:
- To oversee a number of renewable energy projects (Solar PV & Energy Storage) ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, to budget and with high levels of client satisfaction
- To run the contract from handover to final completion (completion of Defects Liability Period), including preparation of the SHEQ Plan. To take control of the fire risk assessment plan, traffic management plan and project risk assessments

Mobile BMS Service Engineer
Equans is looking for a Mobile BMS Engineer to join our Smart Buildings business, covering parts of Cambridgeshire on a permanent, full-time basis.
Smart Building have a very exciting opportunity to deliver critical Building Management System (BMS) Infrastructure upgrades / enhancements across a number of commercial, retail, healthcare, education & government sectors - across the country. In doing so we naturally prime the sites to become ‘Smart enabled’, meaning we can then introduce further value across sites via our IoT solutions; driving social, economic and environmental benefits to portfolios of sites and more importantly people operating and living within them.
Smart buildings currently deliver project works ranging from £10k - £1.5m in singular size + variations via an evolving blend of inhouse delivery supplemented by a selection of specialist supply chain partners. With an aggressive growth strategy over the next 3 – 5 years, this role will be paramount in helping to define shape and grow the team to ensure we grow sustainably.
Key activities:
The role of Service Engineer will include carrying out a number of tasks on contracted customer sites, including PFI Schools, PFI Hospitals, Government Estates and MOD sites. Your day to day will include:
- Install, configure, and commission BMS components and equipment, including sensors, controllers, actuators, and software systems.
- Carry out maintenance checks on Trend, Tridium and Distech BMS’s on our various sites.
- Reactive call out rota will be worked (additional financial benefit included for being on call and attending)
- Provide technical assistance and support to clients regarding their BMS systems.
- Identify opportunities for improvement/remedial works to improve the performance of the BMS’s for our clients.
- Prepare proposals and quoting of works as required.

- City & Guild / BTEC / NVQ Electrical.
Extensive knowledge & experience of BMS / HVAC. - Knowledge & experience with Trend, Tridium Controls/Niagara/Distech/Siemens.
- Excellent working knowledge of the electrical industry.
- Ability to read and interpret Electrical & Mechanical schematic diagrams.
- Understanding of IT networks.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD.

Key Responsibilities:
As an Electrical Site Supervisor, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our solar farm construction operations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the safety of all personnel on-site
- Overseeing daily work activities
- Managing multiple subcontractors effectively
- Reviewing and optimizing work schedules
- Scheduling and maintaining site offices
- Upholding project availability standards
- Providing training and ensuring the safety of technicians
- Effective communication with the management team
In addition, you will be responsible for setting site and individual goals, staying within budgetary constraints, and handling disciplinary actions when necessary. Your role as a field environment role model will ensure that all procedures are followed meticulously.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Previous experience in electrical projects in rail, utilities, or the highways sector
- Electrical trade qualifications (City & Guilds or NVQ)
- Supervisory experience
- Familiarity with Cat & Genny equipment
- Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification
Desirable:
- Prior experience in the Solar PV renewable energy industry
- Familiarity with current solar technology
- First Aid certificates

Electrical Design Engineer

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join the Energy Engineering team in the development of innovative renewable energy and retrofit efficiency projects. This role will report to the Senior Electrical Design Engineer, supporting the continued growth in our engineering and design function in light of our expanding pipeline of work.
The Electrical Design Engineer will contribute in the preparation of electrical design elements of multidisciplinary projects from RIBA 1 to 4, as well as provide technical assurance during construction. These projects will typically range in value from £1m to £5m an encompass virtually all forms of renewable energy technologies.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in electrical engineering, spanning conventional building services, infrastructure and renewable energies. The candidate will be conversant with modern design tools, such as Amtec, AutoCAD and REVIT, as well as key design standards, regulations and codes of practice. The successful candidate will aid in creative, innovative solutions to meet the diverse needs and ambitions of our projects.
Key activities
- The Electrical Design Engineer will be dedicated and committed to delivering designs on time, on budget, satisfy project requirements and achieve compliance.
- Will involve collaborative teamwork with adjoining engineering disciplines and colleagues.
- Ability to take a Project Brief, potentially from pre-concept stage, identify design options and select the best available technique, through rigorous qualitative and quantitative assessment.
- Develop robust yet efficient designs in unique project environments with immovable deadlines
- Liaise with Statutory Authorities, including Distribution Network Operators, to obtain relevant consents
- Work within internal and external design teams to achieve of deliverable
Skills, qualifications & experience
- Bachelors degree in engineering (or equivalent qualification)
- Membership with an appropriate professional institution
- Relevant awards associated with electrical engineering

Commissioning Engineer
Equans is looking for a Commissioning Engineer to join our Smart Buildings Team covering the Midlands on a permanent, full-time basis. On offer is a salary banding of £30,000 - £50,000, car and benefits package.

In parallel, the smart solution(s) support customers zero-carbon transition(s), whilst positivity impacting the wellbeing of occupants and end users. Smart buildings currently deliver project works ranging from £10k - £1.5m in singular size + variations via an evolving blend of inhouse delivery supplemented by a selection of specialist supply chain partners. With an aggressive growth strategy over the next 3 – 5 years, this role will be paramount in helping to define shape and grow the team to ensure we grow sustainably.
What will you deliver?
- The commissioning the installation of BEMS and Control systems in line with Customer design
- requirements and those outlined by the Project Engineer, within agreed timescales.
- Supporting and maintaining a collaborative working environment with internal & external customers and stakeholders including the more junior resources that may require buddying support
- Validating the software strategies and graphics created by the dedicated applications resource
- Perform physical wiring checks and plant start-ups
- Provide technical support to other trades and sub-contractors
- Carry out trouble shooting to diagnose system defects.
- Involvement with customer’s validation processes and execution as part of Commissioning works and Project handover procedures
- Maintaining cleanliness to ensure health and safety standards on-site
- Accurately report progress to the Project Engineer to maintain communicational commitments

Who are we looking for?
Experience and skills
- You'll have extensive experience operating as either a commissioning or pre commissioning Engineer within the BEMS & Building Controls industries in the UK marketplace, with strong technical understanding of industry leading systems including Siemens, Trend, Tridium systems as a minimum.
- You’ll also have extensive experience in commissioning BEMS and Control systems of Siemens PX range, Trend IQ4 range of controls and / or Tridium.
- You’ll be a high level engineer with experience of Siemens Desigo CC and Trend IQ Vision including full integration of M-Bus, Modbus, Bacnet protocols.
- Excellent communication skills and report writing are essential to maintain strong relationships with all team members and customers.
- You’ll have great interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deliver to deadlines.
- Ability to think laterally and creatively to develop innovative solutions to challenges and identify opportunities for improvement and advantage.
Qualifications
- A recognised construction qualification (NVQ Level 5, HNC / HND or higher in a Construction, Infrastructure or engineering related discipline such as building, electrical and/or mechanical service)
