Our client, seeks a dedicated and experienced Risk Control Engineer to manage the engineering and operational activities at their London Branch. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of critical systems, focusing on Health & Safety, building services, and high-voltage operations.
Position Overview:
The Risk Control Engineer will oversee the operations of all engineering and building systems, ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of all assets within the site. With a focus on high voltage (HV) operations, the role requires an experienced professional with strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and an ability to manage risk and compliance effectively. You will be the appointed Authorised Person (AP) for LV/HV operations during your shift, ensuring operational continuity and health & safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise & Coordinate: Lead and manage a team of site technicians, allocating tasks and providing technical support in the completion of PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) and reactive works.
- HV/LV Operations: Act as the Authorised Person for LV/HV operations, including switching activities, isolations, and emergency interventions. Prepare and oversee the completion of Safety Switching Programmes and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs)/Method Operating Procedures (MOPs).
- Operational Control: Monitor and operate critical systems (HV, UPS, generators, air conditioning, lighting, etc.) efficiently and in compliance with health and safety standards.
- Permit to Work (PTW) System: Ensure all work permits, risk assessments, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are in place for specialist service providers and other maintenance activities.
- Incident Management & Reporting: Report incidents in line with escalation procedures, maintaining detailed records of activities, timekeeping, and compliance with SLAs.
- Quality Control: Inspect and sign off on contractor work to ensure service levels and quality are met, escalating issues as necessary.
- Shift Handover: Maintain effective shift handovers, ensuring clear communication on plant status, ongoing tasks, and operational issues.
- Leadership & Staff Development: Motivate and direct the team to achieve high standards of service delivery while ensuring ongoing training and development in line with operational needs.
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in building services and engineering operations.
- LV/HV Authorised Person experience (with valid certification highly desirable).
- City & Guilds (C&G) Electrical Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations certification.
- Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of critical systems including UPS, generators, air conditioning, and high-voltage equipment.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring productivity and safety.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of staff and contractors.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, building codes, and risk management protocols.
- Proactive and solution-focused approach to managing operational risks and ensuring continuous service delivery.
Desirable Qualifications:
- C&G Mechanical Level 3 or equivalent (desirable).
- C&G 2391 Test & Inspection or equivalent (desirable).
- Knowledge of additional systems such as water treatment, refrigeration, and fire suppression.
- Experience with creating and reviewing safety switching programs and emergency operating procedures.

What will you deliver?
- Ensure all PPM is carried out in accordance with the maintenance specification and documented in real time using the PDA to log start/wait/stop completion and travel times with appropriate comments to evidence completion of work
- Ensure that all relevant paperwork is completed regarding PPM, reactive and breakdown works and that it is passed without delay to the contract administrator. Complete supplementary documentation / E-Forms relating to the maintenance task as dictated by your line manager
- Update customers CAFM system in real time with start/wait/stop completion times and
provide full description of works undertaken, advising of any follow-on works required - Ensure reactive tasks throughout the sites are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made. Identify and record all plant failures using quotation forms and issue to line manager. This is to be indicated and recorded within the CAFM system
- Ensure that plant faults and defects are swiftly remedied to maintain plant in serviceable order. In accordance with the delegated authority with the applicable contract or authorised by the client
- Ensure that suitable spares are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works. To provide parts lists and estimated timescales to carry out remedial works
- Undertake Point of Work Risk Assessment (POWRA) prior to starting work evidencing it is safe to proceed. Note any safety concerns using the AIMS system
- Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices at all times
- There will be a requirement to work out of hours to fulfil our maintenance commitments of
our customers and be part of the on call rota

Mechanical Engineer (Days)
Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
The post holder will very much be involved with the maintenance and minor works service covering a wide and varied range of mechanical equipment servicing large industrial units such as dual fired boilers and heating and ventilation distribution equipment.
What will you deliver?
- Undertake fault finding on complex medical gas systems, MTHW /LTHW pressure heating water systems, critical systems and equipment and pressurised steam systems
- Using cause effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution and use of all relevant drawings and schematics
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, inspections, commissioning and testing in accordance with published procedures, completing all report sheets and test certificates as necessary and mark up any drawing alterations
- Use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works ensuring full compliance with EQUANS Guidelines and Controls e.g. Risk Assessment, Site Safety, Fire Safety, Control of Infection and Hazardous Substances
- Work involves the use of analytical test devices, specialist tools, workshop fixed equipment, portable electrical equipment, welding equipment, emergency generators, medical gas equipment (patient use) suction units, geared drives

EQUANS are recruiting for a Fitter / Plumber to be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital. This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £34,000 to £36,000 plus a shift allowance of £3,581 per annum. In addition you will receive an excellent benefits package.
What will you deliver?
- Support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance Service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust for the service provider.
- Undertake any training as required
- Promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners and to liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues if required
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post
- After suitable training and guidance diagnose faults, repair, and maintain complex equipment in accordance with Health Technical Memorandum (HTM’s) and other specialised hospital equipment.
- Carry out the work of other trades where there is an interface to the work in hand with a level of competence that is outside core trade.
- To carry a radio or pager to facilitate immediate response.
- Work in highly unpleasant working conditions, unblocking drains and sewers, which include biological hazards of body fluids and noxious fumes.
- To work safely on steam and hot water systems
- To always observe statutory and other relevant requirements those relating to the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations and Electrical IEE regulations.

Static Technical Operative - Mechanical
Equans is looking for a Static Technical Operative (Mechanical) to join our team in Strand, Holborn for our HMCTS contract on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview:
To work as a Mechanical engineer with electrical qualification. This Role is to provide both reactive and planned maintenance task as well as replacements though minor works and lifecycle. The role is to maintain the HVAC systems. To manage the sites BMS. And to over see daily operational of cooling towers.
Qualifications
Desirable to have an NVQ (or similar) in electrical and Mechanical studies.
Ensure that reactive tasks throughout the sites are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made.
Ensure that suitable consumables are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works. To provide parts lists and estimated timescales to carry out remedial works.
Ensure that all relevant paperwork/CAFM is completed regarding planned and reactive activities and that it is passed without delay to the contract administrator.
Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices.
To develop a good working relationship with all members of Equans staff, subcontractors and the client representatives.
Ensure the provision of a Safe and Healthy working environment. To always include the wearing of uniform and PPE.
Ensure the professional image of Equans is presented to clients at all times
Ensure that all plant rooms under the responsibility of Equans are kept in a clean and tidy condition.
Supervising and monitoring of sub-contractors works whilst they are on site carrying out associated with electrical and all FM related tasks.
To arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns.
To undertake lone working when and where required, subject to passing satisfactory training.
Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate.
Ensure an awareness and compliance to the contractual KPI's/SLA's.
Ensure CAFM system, e.g. Maximo, is kept up to date and that PPM and reactive tickets are closed out with accurate data captured.
To carry out any other task as directed by the account management team.
The position will require you to provide support in emergency situations to ensure business and operational continuity.

•Ensure you follow Method Statements & Risk Assessments for all works

Shift Electrical Engineer
EQUANS is looking for a Shift Electrical Engineer to join our team in Salford on a permanent basis at Media City. This is a full-time role working 38.5 hours per week. This is a shift role consisting of working 4 days on, 4 off. These shifts include 2x shifts working 7am-7pm and 2x shifts 7pm-7am. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview:
EQUANS are recruiting for an Electrical Engineer to join our existing team on the Media City Contract. This is a permanent full-time role working Shifts two days, two nights followed by four days off.
The Engineers primary role will be all-round engineering support, maintaining the building infrastructure. Have a detailed understanding of all new or current Building Services systems and contingency procedures within the buildings and complying with the Health & Safety/building codes of practice.
It is the Electrical Engineer’s role to act as a co-ordination point for the day-to-day activities on site between him or herself and the FM management team.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all activities allocated to his shift are undertaken with a professional and conscientious outlook with regards to the quality of work and Health & Safety, maintaining the 100% uptime criteria.
To ensure that there are excellent standards of response to plant failures, completion of assigned work and ensure any abnormal operating conditions and housekeeping issues are dealt with proficiently.
The individual should have a very good track record and should be capable of running the operation whilst on duty including their respective shift engineer during night shifts and subcontractors.
Ensure that any difficulties encountered on engineering activities are reported to the Engineering Supervisor / Manager.
Ensure all record keeping functions are completed on a daily basis, understanding of escalation procedures.
Be part of overtime for on site works and site cover.
Risk Assessments and Method Statements – read, and review. Carry out Point of Work risk assessment.
