FM Mechanical Engineer (Dayshift)
Equans is looking for an FM Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
The post holder will very much be involved with the maintenance and minor works service covering a wide and varied range of mechanical equipment servicing large industrial units such as dual fired boilers and heating and ventilation distribution equipment.
What will you deliver?
- Undertake fault finding on complex medical gas systems, MTHW /LTHW pressure heating water systems, critical systems and equipment and pressurised steam systems
- Using cause effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution and use of all relevant drawings and schematics
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance, inspections, commissioning and testing in accordance with published procedures, completing all report sheets and test certificates as necessary and mark up any drawing alterations
- Use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works ensuring full compliance with EQUANS Guidelines and Controls e.g. Risk Assessment, Site Safety, Fire Safety, Control of Infection and Hazardous Substances
- Work involves the use of analytical test devices, specialist tools, workshop fixed equipment, portable electrical equipment, welding equipment, emergency generators, medical gas equipment (patient use) suction units, geared drives

- Reactive Maintenance: Address and resolve any reactive maintenance tasks promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

- Subcontractor Supervision: Oversee specialist sub-contractors’ work, ensuring compliance and reporting any anomalies.

Shift Mechanical Engineer
Equans is looking for a Shift Mechanical Engineer to join our team working at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick. This is a full-time, permanent role working 40.25 hours per week, based on a shift pattern of four on four off, split into two days and two nights. On offer is a salary banding of £32,000 - £35,000 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience, plus a shift allowance of £3,000 per annum and benefits package.
The role is vital to ensure that the mechanical systems, equipment and plant within the estate are maintained to a high standard and that they can operate effectively to enable the Trust to deliver their services from a compliant and reliable facility. Successful completion of all assigned tasks and a conscientious approach will significantly contribute to the ability to retain the high quality of the facility to assist in ensuring healthcare can be delivered in an appropriate environment.
What will you deliver?
- Undertake a proactive role in responding to reactive jobs to complete diagnostic, fault finding and repair to complex mechanical systems in accordance with relevant standards and operational procedures and in compliance with legislation and guidance
- Obtain Competent Person status following training and instruction for systems such as specialist ventilation system, complex water systems and medical gas installations.

Mechanical Craftsperson
Equans is looking for a Mechanical Craftsperson (Water) to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £28,000 - £31,000 per annum dependent upon skills and experience and benefits package.
What will you deliver?
- Undertake the water system planned preventive maintenance, testing, breakdown maintenance and other maintenance related activities to the Estate
- The responsibilities will mainly be at the Acute Hospital but may also include duties at the Retained Estate and Mental Health unit
- Perform the complete range of Mechanical Craftsperson (Water) tasks as required or directed by management
- Be knowledgeable of and to work to the current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety regulations, and all safety rules both Equans and Statutory
- Have a knowledge of water systems within a commercial/healthcare environment and maintenance/ testing activities
- Have a knowledge of Legionella and other water pathogens
- Have a knowledge of water storage tank cleaning and disinfection
- Undertake temperature monitoring, shower head cleaning and disinfection, Tank visual inspections, water samples, calorifier visual inspections, TMV servicing, to name a few
- Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to own trade, without supervision
- Ensure all PPM work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions

EQUANS is looking for Shift Mechanical Engineer on a permanent basis. This would be based in Salford for our Media City contract. This would be a shifts role, consisting of 4 on, 4 off (2 days 7am-7pm & 2 nights 7pm-7am). On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview:
We have an opportunity available for a Mechanical Engineer to work on the Media City, Manchester contract.
A Sound mechanical knowledge of HVAC systems is essential.
•Experience of working on Commercial Hot and Cold-water Systems is essential.
•Approved and formal apprenticeship served in Plumbing/Mechanical skill area required or relevant and practical experience within a similar industry
•Sound awareness of risk assessment & working safely with equipment

•Sound knowledge of Health & Safety including ISO 9001 & 14,001

Working to a high standard of Building Maintenance for various FM Companies, we require a fully reliable Mechanical Engineer who can work on their own initiative or within a team environment. Produce high quality reports of their findings along with estimates, for producing quotations. The role will involve being the face of EQUANS on site so smart appearance and being able to discuss findings with others is required.

Mobile Mechanical Engineer
Equans is recruiting for a Mobile Mechanical Engineer on the HMCTS contract covering various sites across North London. This is a permanent full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with Electrical Qualification to join our team. This role involves providing both reactive and planned maintenance, as well as undertaking minor works and lifecycle replacements. The primary responsibilities include maintaining HVAC systems, managing the site’s BMS, and ensuring compliance with all relevant procedures and standards, including Legionella control and monitoring activities.
What will you deliver?
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of Electrical and Mechanical Building Services Engineering Assets.
- Ensure PPM tasks are completed in accordance with site task schedules and CAFM.
- Quickly remedy plant faults and defects to maintain serviceable order.
- Monitor and maintain the electrical/mechanical infrastructure.
- Ensure necessary spares are available for maintenance and repairs.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork/CAFM records without delay.
- Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for all tasks to ensure safe working practices.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with Equans staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
- Maintain compliance logbooks and ensure plant rooms are kept clean and orderly.
- Supervise and monitor subcontractor works on-site.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover as required.
- Undertake lone working when necessary, subject to training completion.
- Ensure adherence to contractual KPIs/SLA requirements.
- Maintain and update the CAFM system to ensure accurate data capture.
- Operate a Permit to Work System as per EQUANS and client requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations to ensure business and operational continuity.

Mechanical Technician
Equans is looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our team at the Victoria Hospital in Fife on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. This is based on a shift pattern that includes working nights and weekends. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
What will you deliver?
- Provide delivery of Planned & Reactive maintenance activity of Mechanical resource, supporting Heating, Cooling, Domestic water systems & Equipment, in accordance with the Schedule of Programmed Maintenance
- Ensure all Planned Maintenance works are completed within the target start and target completion timeframes
- Ensure all Reactive Works are responded to and completed in line with contractual SLA’s
- Ensure all Corrective & Remedial works are completed and duly recorded
- Report all Corrective & Remedial works that need to be undertaken by other skillsets, or external contractors
- Ensure that the integrity of the Critical systems is always achieved minimising downtime of assets
- Correctly & Accurately utilise PDA to accurately record information, data and details relating to all works undertaken and accounting for working day
- Complete all maintenance documentation (electronic and hard copy) ensuring full and accurate completion
- Assess, compile, and create safety programmes relating to Mechanical and Medical Gas works in line with EQUANS Safe Systems of Work and SHTM 02-01 Undertaking the duties and responsibilities as Appointed Person within the relevant discipline. Issuing of Medical Gas permits as required
- Issue Limitation of Access Permit to Contractors attending site outside of normal working hours, including working at height, hot works, etc.

Mechanical Engineer
Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work on our contract with Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 40 hours per week, between the hours 08:00 - 16:30, Monday to Friday. There is also an on-call rota. On offer is a salary of £32,000 - £37,000 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience and benefits package.
What will you deliver?
- Perform the complete range of Mechanical Technician tasks as required or directed by management
- Be knowledgeable of and to work to the current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety regulations, and all safety rules both Equans and Statutory
- Understand the operation of water systems and to correctly apply this knowledge and understand during the performance of Estates Services maintenance and testing activities
- Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to his/her own trade, without supervision
- Ensure all PPM work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions
- Maintain records and logbooks, ensuring they are kept up to date and available for inspection
- Record information as required for the operation of Maximo or similar system
- Carry out on call duties as part of a rota
