Mechanical Engineer

Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

The post holder will very much be involved with the maintenance and minor works service covering a wide and varied range of mechanical equipment servicing large industrial units such as dual fired boilers and heating and ventilation distribution equipment.

What will you deliver?

  • Undertake fault finding on complex medical gas systems, MTHW /LTHW pressure heating water systems, critical systems and equipment and pressurised steam systems
  • Using cause effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution and use of all relevant drawings and schematics
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, inspections, commissioning and testing in accordance with published procedures, completing all report sheets and test certificates as necessary and mark up any drawing alterations
  • Use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works ensuring full compliance with EQUANS Guidelines and Controls e.g. Risk Assessment, Site Safety, Fire Safety, Control of Infection and Hazardous Substances
  • Work involves the use of analytical test devices, specialist tools, workshop fixed equipment, portable electrical equipment, welding equipment, emergency generators, medical gas equipment (patient use) suction units, geared drives

Mechanical Engineer (Heating & Plumbing)

Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Heating & Plumbing) to join our team at the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and in addition you will receive an excellent benefits package. 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer (Heating & Plumbing) to join our Facilities Management team at the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People based in Little France, Edinburgh.  This is a permanent position working 48 hours per week. The role will be on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, and working hours will be 0900 - 21:00. There will be participation in an out of hours on call rota, and overtime when necessary.

Key activities:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive preventative maintenance (RPM) tasks as assigned through Maximo (or other system)
  • Sign off on completed work and promptly report any issues to the M&E Lead for rectification. Ensure tasks are properly closed off in Maximo following full completion.
  • Demonstrate initiative and judgment in resolving non-routine problems independently.
  • Recommend options for improved task performance and provide workable solutions to immediate work problems.
  • Effectively plan, organize, and prioritize allocated work.
  • Take ownership of tasks and deliver them to the best of your ability.
  • Respond flexibly to changing circumstances, work priorities, and deadlines.
  • Complete tasks within agreed timescales and ensure adherence to high-quality standards.
  • Observe and follow work through to completion while checking for errors and making necessary corrections.

Skills, qualifications & experience:

  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Technician or similar role in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SHTM (Sottish Healthcare Technical Memorandum), PPMs (Planned Preventative Maintenance), and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
  • Excellent understanding of Engineering Building Services installation and maintenance techniques.
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Mechanical Engineer

Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team on site in Westminster, London on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £40,000 - £45,801 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience and benefits package.

A role has become available on a prestigious government facilities management contract for a mechanical engineer. The role is a for a day shift engineer, working 8 hours each shift 09:00 – 18:00, with some flexibility to meet requirements.

What will you deliver?

  • The successful candidate will be required to have proven previous experience of planned preventative and reactive maintenance and their primary task will be to perform works on mechanical systems; including plumbing, air conditioning, pressure systems and will be required to assist the team with building fabric and electrical systems
  • Effectively performing maintenance of a range of assets, through following a PPM schedule and ensuring compliance in a flexible and efficient manner
  • Manage any reactive tasks that get raised, from diagnosis through to sourcing parts and on to completion
  • Working as first line response to any reactive call-out, ensuring that you are always working safely and to the Approved Codes of Practice for the relevant service you are carrying out
  • Working with various different parties, including specialist subcontractors in order to deliver work to the highest of standards for our clients. You must be able to demonstrate that you are aware of best working practices and that you are following them at all times

Mobile Maintenance Operative

Equans is looking for a Mobile Maintenance Operative to join our team working on a mobile basis in Bristol and Oxford on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £32,000 - £34,000 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience, company vehicle and benefits package.

The Operative will carry out all PPM and Reactive repairs, as necessary across Health Care sites in Bristol and Oxford.

  • Liaise with the helpdesk in relation to Reactive Work Orders

  • Complete relevant paperwork and report diligently

Mechanical Technician

Equans is looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our team at Fife Victoria Hospital on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. This is based on a shift pattern that includes working nights and weekends. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

What will you deliver?

  • Provide delivery of Planned & Reactive maintenance activity of Mechanical resource, supporting Heating, Cooling, Domestic water systems & Equipment, in accordance with the Schedule of Programmed Maintenance
  • Ensure all Planned Maintenance works are completed within the target start and target completion timeframes
  • Ensure all Reactive Works are responded to and completed in line with contractual SLA’s
  • Ensure all Corrective & Remedial works are completed and duly recorded

  • Ensure that the integrity of the Critical systems is always achieved minimising downtime of assets

  • Assess, compile, and create safety programmes relating to Mechanical and Medical Gas works in line with EQUANS Safe Systems of Work and SHTM 02-01 Undertaking the duties and responsibilities as Appointed Person within the relevant discipline. Issuing of Medical Gas permits as required
  • Issue Limitation of Access Permit to Contractors attending site outside of normal working hours, including working at height, hot works, etc.

Heating/Plumbing Engineer

Equans is recruiting for a Heating/Plumbing Engineer to be based on site at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh. This is a permanent full-time role working 42 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

Equans is looking for a Mechanical Craftsperson (Water) to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary banding of £28,000 - £31,000 per annum dependent upon skills and experience and benefits package.

What will you deliver?

  • Undertake the water system planned preventive maintenance, testing, breakdown maintenance and other maintenance related activities to the Estate
  • The responsibilities will mainly be at the Acute Hospital but may also include duties at the Retained Estate and Mental Health unit
  • Perform the complete range of Mechanical Craftsperson (Water) tasks as required or directed by management
  • Be knowledgeable of and to work to the current regulations, codes of practice, Health & Safety regulations, and all safety rules both Equans and Statutory
  • Have a knowledge of water systems within a commercial/healthcare environment and maintenance/ testing activities
  • Have a knowledge of Legionella and other water pathogens
  • Have a knowledge of water storage tank cleaning and disinfection
  • Undertake temperature monitoring, shower head cleaning and disinfection, Tank visual inspections, water samples, calorifier visual inspections, TMV servicing, to name a few
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to own trade, without supervision
  • Ensure all PPM work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions

  • NVQ or C&G Level 2 Heating/Vent/Plumbing
  • Legionella/TMV/Disinfection awareness and training

Mechanical Building Services Engineer - Mobile

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our maintenance team working on our Greater Manchester Police TFM contract based at Eccles police station, and covering the entire police estate across the Greater Manchester area. This is a full-time mobile position working from 8am to 5pm, 40 hours p/week.

The role:

  • Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager
  • Ensure the satisfactory completion of allocated maintenance, breakdown repairs, installation, new and refurbishment works.
  • Responsible for the safe operation, planned and reactive maintenance of all systems, associated plant/equipment installed throughout the site.
  • To respond promptly and efficiently to plant breakdowns.
  • To integrate and communicate effectively with the M&E engineering and fabric maintenance functions, including contractors.
  • Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch break, plus participation in the on call rota

The person:

  • Must hold a recognised mechanical trade apprenticeship and/or relevant qualifications to level 3 (theory and practice) in a relevant mechanical discipline with suitable industry experience
  • Will have significant experience in a building services environment with comprehensive mechanical experience
  • Must be able to achieve and retain relevant vetting clearance required by the client
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Sound IT skills including CAFM experience, or similar
  • Full driving licence as travel to various sites across the contract will be required and a Company van will be provided

Fitter / Plumber

EQUANS are recruiting for a Fitter / Plumber to be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital. This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. What will you deliver?

  • Support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance Service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust for the service provider.
  • Undertake any training as required
  • Promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners and to liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues if required
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post
  • After suitable training and guidance diagnose faults, repair, and maintain complex equipment in accordance with Health Technical Memorandum (HTM’s) and other specialised hospital equipment.
  • Carry out the work of other trades where there is an interface to the work in hand with a level of competence that is outside core trade.
  • To carry a radio or pager to facilitate immediate response.
  • Work in highly unpleasant working conditions, unblocking drains and sewers, which include biological hazards of body fluids and noxious fumes.
  • To work safely on steam and hot water systems
  • To always observe statutory and other relevant requirements those relating to the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations and Electrical IEE regulations.

Mobile Technical Operative - Fabric

Equans is looking for a Mobile Technical Operative (Fabric) to join our team at Stevenage Magistrates Court on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week for our HMCTS contract. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview:  
Equans provide technical and soft services to our client HMCTS across a large portfolio of buildings across the UK. As part of the service, we provide low voltage electrical maintenance and installation services, and because of business growth, we are recruiting for additional roles to provide these services for our customer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the role is to carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide variety of Fabric and limited Engineering Assets, ensuring all activities are completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with the contracted output specifications and Equans processes and procedures. This includes Legionella control and monitoring activities. Activities will include:
•Inspect/repair floor, walls, ceilings and roofs, free standing and fitted furniture, doors (Inc. Fire Doors), windows and associated furniture.
•Inspect/clear drainage and gully systems, unblock toilets and sinks
•Inspect/replace luminaries
•Painting, re-decorating and hanging of pictures/signed/notices
•General site services; to include, sweeping and tidying
•Carry out Ad-Hoc activities supporting Equans and client team including moves/changes
•Ensure that reactive tasks throughout the sites are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made. 
•Ensure that suitable consumables are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works. To provide parts lists and estimated timescales to carry out remedial works.
•Ensure that all relevant paperwork/CAFM is completed accurately regarding planned and reactive activities and that it is passed without delay to the contract administrator.
•Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices.
•To develop a good working relationship with all members of Equans staff, subcontractors and the client representatives.
•Ensure the provision of a Safe and Healthy working environment. To include the wearing of uniform and PPE at all times.
•Ensure the professional image of Equans is presented to clients at all times
•Ensure that all plant rooms under the responsibility of Equans are kept in a clean and tidy condition.
•Supervising and monitoring of sub-contractors works whilst they are on site carrying out associated Fabric tasks
•To arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns.
•To undertake lone working when and where required, subject to passing satisfactory training.
•Ensure assigned tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate, and an awareness and compliance to the contractual KPI's/SLA's.
•The position will require you to provide support in emergency situations to ensure business and operational continuity.

Impact:  
Working to high standard of Building Maintenance, we require a fully reliable and competent Electrician who can work on own initiative, within a team or oversee subcontractor’s, producing high quality reports on their findings and work. The role will involve being the face of Equans so smart appearance and being able to discuss findings with others including customers is required.

Complexity:  
The successful candidate will have the ability to fault find and diagnose and rectify complex Electrical faults and issues unaided. Have an excellent knowledge of Electrical systems, which will enable the development of switching schedules and Safety Documentation prior to shutdowns. To plan and oversee electrical shutdowns to permit maintenance or testing.

Qualifications or Required Experience:  
Suitable experience working in a similar high demanding role.

•Full Clean UK Driving License 
•NVQ level 3 in Electrical or equivalent such as City & Guilds Technical Certificate in Electrical.
•18th Edition IET Wiring regulations
