We have a great opportunity for a Business Development Manager to support our growing street lighting and highways electrical infrastructure business across Southern England. The role will involve further developing existing client relationships along with identifying new ones and with that create a pipeline of opportunities.

Key activities

  • The Business Development (BDM) will support the agreed strategic target clients and prospects by making business telephone/web calls, in-person and collaborative visits, along with presentations to increase the profile of the company.
  • The primary objective of the BDM will be to strive to exceed the businesses sales targets in respect of both value and margin.
  • The company will expect the BDM to meet any sales targets as a minimum. In addition, the BDM must also meet any agreed specific company KPIs, expectations and objectives.
  • The BDM may be allocated a specific group of strategic or target clients, a specific territory, an industry segment, a combination or all of the above. It will be the responsibility of the BDM to formulate the strategy, including any specific target client or project, and delivering success to the role.
  • It will be crucial that the BDM works in collaboration with not only the Business Development team, but the wider community within Connected Cities. The BDM will be tasked with ensuring there are many cross party relationships between the target strategic account and Equans.
  • The BDM must work closely with the Business Development team to ensure bid writing is of the highest standard and that submissions meet the expectation of the client. Full qualification of the client’s business problems, previous supplier issues and expectations from any strategic partner is essential for the success of any relationship.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute business development strategies to drive the company’s growth in target markets.
  • Revenue Growth: Directly responsible for achieving revenue targets through the acquisition of new clients and expansion of existing client relationships.
  • Market Research: Conduct market analysis to identify new business opportunities and stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring customer satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Connected Cities team to align business development strategies with overall company goals.

Skills, qualifications & experience 

  • Industry Experience: experience within a relevant industry.
  • Sales Experience: have a strong track record in sales, business development, or account management. Proven success in achieving sales targets and growing market share is crucial.
  • Strategic Planning: Experience in developing and implementing business strategies, market entry strategies, or product launch plans.
  • Relationship Management: Extensive experience in building and maintaining relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and ROI analysis.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing complex projects from inception to completion.

As a Senior SHEQ Advisor, you will play a crucial role in enhancing operational safety, health, environment, and quality within our DES projects, covering Energy Solutions, Smart Buildings, Connected Cities, Embedded Energy, and EV. The position will involve supporting projects across parts of Oxfordhsire, Bath, Swindon, Bristol and Cheltenham.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee SHEQ management across designated business unit operational areas, ensuring adherence to external and internal standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the head of SHEQ, other SHEQ Managers, and Central SHEQ to maintain robust systems meeting statutory and Equans obligations.
  • Ensure accurate recording of all reportable data (Near Misses, Accidents, RIDDORs, HiPos, LTI’s, Incidents, LSV/MSV) and provide coaching where necessary.
  • Develop and implement SHEQ Action Plans for each contract, fostering safer workplaces and enhancing employee engagement.
  • Utilize findings from SHEQ Audits to improve safety and quality, providing guidance and feedback to enhance processes and systems.
  • Mentor Safety Ambassadors and Responsible Business Champions, promoting a culture aligned with Equans' values and objectives.
  • Facilitate training initiatives and lead investigations, ensuring comprehensive reports and recommendations to prevent future incidents.
  • Support internal functions to ensure appropriate systems and resources are in place to manage risks effectively.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience: 

  • NVQ 5/Diploma Level in Health and Safety management or equivalent.

Contracts Manager

EQUANS is looking for a Contracts Manager to join our refurbishment team, this is a full time permanent role.  Our head office base is Hatfield however this role will be working on sites in Kensington and Chelsea. We offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance and benefits package. 

This role is to work as part of our refurbishment team on high end retrofit projects. We are looking for someone with experience of traditional refurbishment projects of circa 20 million.

This is a new flagship contract; we are therefor looking for someone who is confident managing projects of this size.

 

What will you deliver? 

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and ensure that they are followed by all personnel involved in the schemes under their control
  • To take ownership of all aspects of each project under their control from estimating handover through to completion
  • Provide project direction, focus and consistency across a number of schemes
  • Ensure staff receive adequate training to carry out their role on the project
  • Assess exposure to the business for any claims from clients/consultants and residents and ensure the relevant corrective action is taken 
  • Preparation and management of the Construction Phase Plan
  • Preparation and management of the contract programme including Target Programmes
  • Ensure that a Materials and Contractor Procurement schedule are in place to suit the proposed Target/Construction Programme
  • Application of any extension of time / EWN and or cause and effect programme (in liaison with the Quantity Surveyor)
  • Regular updating, review and monitoring of the project risk register
  • Keeping the SHEQ job programme up to date.
  • Develop strong professional relationships with Clients and their officers to help future business development

Roads & Streetworks Inspector

EQUANS is looking for a Roads & Streetworks Inspector to join our team in Grimsby. This is a full time permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week. With a salary of up to £25,000 plus benefits package.

A driving license is essential for this role.

The individual will be part of a team that has the responsibility under delegated powers to ensure that the local authority discharges its statutory duty for the day to day co-ordination, inspections and monitoring of works carried out by Utility Companies and Private Companies under licence, within the Highway.

What will you deliver? 

  • Monitor the progress and quality of the works undertaken by statutory undertakers and others with powers to undertake work on the highway to ensure compliance with the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act under the delegated powers given to Equans by the local authority.
  • Monitor safety standards employed by those undertaking works on the highway ensuring that Equans meets its obligation for the safety of highway users by applying the delegated powers available to it.
  • Operating an effective programme of inspections of street works ensuring compliance with the requirements of NRSWA on behalf of the local authority.
  • Monitor the placing of skips, scaffolding etc, on the public highway.
  • Maintain records of all inspections to ensure the council has adequate records for future reference.
  • Investigate all reports of defective reinstatement. Purse the rectification and identify situations where recovery of costs, for any defect found during sample inspections or following investigation of a reported defect should be pursued.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of systems of working that continue to ensure the effective delivery of this service.
  • Assist with the enforcement of all relevant street works legislation (including inspections, site meetings, the serving of notices and maintenance of records), to maintain the safety of highway users.
  • Liaise in a professional, efficient and courteous manner with elected members, the retained client, the general public, parish councils, neighbouring authorities and any other interested parties in relation to all street works activities.
  • Monitoring the activities of all parties working on the highway, intervening to stop unsafe working practices or correct defective workmanship.
  • Upon its inception carry out permit compliance checks in line with supplied conditions of statutory undertakers.

Contracts Manager

EQUANS are recruiting for a Contracts Manager to be based in Greater Manchester. This is a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, car allowance, bonus and benefits package.

General Overview

Highways Inspector

EQUANS is looking for a Highway Inspector to join our team in Grimsby on a permanent basis. This is a part time role working Monday - Wednesday 9am - 5pm with a 30 min break and Thursday 9am - 10.30am . On offer is a salary up to £16,640.00 plus benefits package. 

EQUANS is North East Lincolnshire Council’s long-term Regeneration Partner delivering a number of services on their behalf, including the Highways & Transport.

The individual will be part of a team that has responsibility, under delegated powers, to ensure that the Local Authority discharges its statutory duty for the inspection, assessment and maintenance of the highway to ensure it is safe for all users of the network and the wider community, having regard to core objectives of safety, serviceability and sustainability.

What will you deliver? 

  • To inspect, investigate and order works as necessary to maintain the highway network in a safe condition.
  • To conform to legislation, policy, codes of practice, procedures and standards to ensure a robust and consistent approach to highway maintenance.
  • To maintain accurate records and documentation to ensure the local authority has adequate records for future reference and to enable the local authority to establish a defence against any action or liability claim that may arise.
  • Working within strict legal protocols and timescales, assist with the processing of third-party insurance claims, providing inspection and maintenance records, meeting claimants and solicitors on site, providing statements of evidence and attending court for cross examination in defence of the local authority.
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders including client officers, elected members, the general public, parish councils, neighbouring authorities, emergency services and any other interested parties on matters relating to highway services.
  • To investigate stakeholder enquiries within prescribed timescales as directed by Highway Asset Engineer and Highway Maintenance Technician’s, often including complex and diverse issues and advise on potential solutions to problems to ensure the safety of the highway network.
  • To assist with the investigation of freedom of information requests within prescribed timescales.
  • To inspect the work of in-house labour force, contractors, or other third parties working on the highway, and to take any necessary measures to ensure their compliance with relevant legislation, specifications, standards and codes of practice.      
  • To identify and report on the need for more substantial improvement works on the highway, beyond the scope of reactive maintenance, for example roads requiring reconstruction, resurfacing, surface dressing and slurry sealing.   
  • When required, provide advice to third parties working in the highway, and if necessary, intervene to stop unsafe working practices.
  • To assist with the enforcement of relevant legislation to ensure the safety of the highway network.
  • To investigate and assist with the processing of applications for the construction of vehicular footway or verge crossings.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of new technology and systems of working to ensure the effective delivery of the service.
  • To contribute to the development of policy, procedures, safe methods of working and risk assessments
  • Undertake such other duties as may be required commensurate with the job level.

General Overview

Managing the Design Process:

Develop a comprehensive design plan that outlines the design stages, deliverables/scope of works, and timelines in line with the construction program.

Coordinate and oversee the design process, ensuring all disciplines fully collaborate and work together seamlessly to avoid conflicts and delays.

Review, value engineer, and approve design submissions, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with regulations, and adherence to project specifications.

Manage design revisions and modifications as needed, keeping stakeholders informed of any changes.

Client and Stakeholder Communication:
