Equans is recruiting for a Heating/Plumbing Engineer to be based on site at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh. This is a permanent full-time role working 42 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

This is a permanent position working 42 hours per week. The role will be on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, and working hours will be 0900 – 21:00. There will be participation in an out of hours on call rota, and overtime when necessary.

Key activities:

  • You will play a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of Mechanical systems within the healthcare environment.
  • Oossess competency at level 3 in theory and practice or equivalent in a relevant Mechanical discipline or have achieved an advanced level recognized and relevant apprenticeship.
  • Mechanical Craftsperson may provide general supervision of Craft or Operative Maintenance Assistants or act as a Shift Lead Line Manager overseeing a small team.Lead Line Manager.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive preventative maintenance (RPM) tasks as assigned through Maximo (or other system)
  • Sign off on completed work and promptly report any issues to the M&E Lead for rectification. Ensure tasks are properly closed off in Maximo following full completion.
  • Demonstrate initiative and judgment in resolving non-routine problems independently.
  • Recommend options for improved task performance and provide workable solutions to immediate work problems.
  • Effectively plan, organize, and prioritize allocated work.
  • Take ownership of tasks and deliver them to the best of your ability.
  • Respond flexibly to changing circumstances, work priorities, and deadlines.
  • Complete tasks within agreed timescales and ensure adherence to high-quality standards.
  • Observe and follow work through to completion while checking for errors and making necessary corrections.

Skills, qualifications & experience:

  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as an Mechanical Craftsperson or similar role in a healthcare environment.
  • Understanding of SHTMs, PPMs, and SLAs related to Mechanical systems.
  • Competency at level 3 in theory and practice or equivalent in a relevant Mechanical discipline.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety at Work (HASAW) requirements and risk assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of RAMS and codes of safe working.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Organizational and time management skills.

  • The role requires the successful candidate to obtain a PVG certificate. You will not be able to start until this is in place.
