Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package. 

As an Energy Centre Technician, you will undertake planned, preventative maintenance, testing, repairs, and new installation work covering a wide range of equipment, services, systems, and buildings associated with the running of a large hospital. To work a day shift pattern but to be flexible as determined by the role.

What will you deliver? 

  • Support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance Service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust for the service provide
  • Undertake any training as required
  • Promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners and to liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues if required
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post
  • After suitable training and guidance, diagnose faults, repair and maintain complex equipment in accordance with PSSR) and other specialised heating plant
  • Carry out the work of other trades where there is an interface to the work in hand with a level of competence that’s outside core trade
  • To carry a radio or pager to facilitate immediate response
  • Work in unpleasant working conditions, steam ducts and confined spaces
  • To work safely on steam and hot water systems
  • Prepare plant for insurance inspections
  • Carry out routine boiler tests and maintenance tasks, after suitable training
  • To observe statutory and other relevant requirements, at all times, in particular those relating to the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations and PSSR regulations

Who are we looking for? 

 

  • A recognised CITB apprenticeship or approved equivalent
  • City & Guilds Craft Certificate relevant to the trade or similar recognised trade certificate
  • Level 3 NVQ or relevant experience
  • City & Guilds steam maintenance, BOAS (desirable)
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive approach to problem solving
  • Capable of working with no or minimum supervision

This role includes a standard DBS check therefore ability to pass is essential.
