Equans is looking for a Head of Sustainability & Environment to join our team in London on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, car allowance and benefits package.

This is a hybrid role. National travel is required.

The Head of Sustainability and Environment is a senior role within the CSR department and is responsible for developing and implementing the organisation's sustainability strategy. This role involves overseeing environmental initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and promoting sustainable practices across the organisation.

This role is crucial for driving positive change and ensuring the organisation operates in a sustainable and socially responsible manner.

As a Head of Sustainability & Environment, you will:

Team Leadership: 

    • Manage and lead a team of social value professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring continuous development and growth within the team.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve goals

 

Strategic Thinking and Alignment:

    • Have the ability to develop and implement long term sustainability and environment strategies that align with the organisation's mission and values
    • Identify and manage environmental impact areas such as carbon emissions, waste management, and resource consumption.
    • Regularly review and update the sustainability strategy to ensure it remains aligned with evolving organisational goals and external trends
    • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of sustainability initiatives.

 

Stakeholder engagement, Collaboration and Communication:

    • Foster collaboration and buy-in from senior management across diverse operational business units and Clients. Senior-level dialogue and communication skills are essential to fulfil this role effectively.
    • Develop and implement communication plans to effectively convey sustainability goals and achievements to all stakeholders.
    • Raise awareness of sustainability practices with all employees
    • Develop and lead on building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, including investors, clients and regulatory bodies.
    • Promote transparency and address sustainability concerns

Environmental Management:

    • Generate long-term positive impacts for local communities, the environment, and other external parties.
    • Lead initiatives to reduce the organisation's carbon footprint and enhance resource efficiency
    • Oversee the integration of renewable energy solutions and sustainable practices.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards

Corporate Governance:

    • Implement and maintain governance frameworks and policies from Central UKBU team.
    • Ensure accountability and transparency in sustainability practices

Reporting and Compliance:

    • Oversee the preparation and publication of sustainability reports.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and reporting standards
    • Utilise advanced data analytics to enhance the accuracy and impact of sustainability reporting.
    • Work alongside the Central UKBU team

Risk Management:

    • Assess potential sustainability risks and develop mitigation strategies to address potential sustainability challenges.
    • Monitor risk and opportunities and update Corporate risk register accordingly
    • Monitor emerging trends and regulations in the sustainability landscape.
    • Support the central team with the TCFD requirements

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

    • Encourage and drive innovation in sustainability practices.
    • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and stay updated with the latest sustainability trends and technologies

Who are we looking for?

  • Previous experience in sustainability, environmental management or a related field (Facilities management and Digital and solar
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing sustainability strategies and initiatives
  • Experience with sustainability reporting framework and tools
  • A minimum of IEMA Practitioner or related membership/qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal teams and external parties
  • In-depth knowledge of ESG metrics, reporting standards
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Strong understanding of sustainability principles and frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD)
  • Familiarity with relevant sustainability and ESG regulations

What will you deliver?

  • Strategic management of the HR Services category: analysis of spend & business needs, anticipation of future needs, supplier market analysis and market dynamics - Management of the related supply chain, contract extension/renewal, launch and drive end to end RFP/RFQ processes, etc
  • Leading the development of procurement strategies in close cooperation with business operations and procurement stakeholders activating all spend reduction levers
  • Defining and implementing an action plan to deploy strategies for BUs/entities to effectively reduce their external spend on the category and/or mitigate market increases
  • Steering economic performance (external spend reduction), supplier performance on category
  • Adapting strategy in response to changes (market, internal budgets, technologies)
  • Supporting operational entities in the implementation and monitoring of supplier policy defined for the category
  • Assist the Delivery and Commercial teams in efficient subcontract procurement
  • Work to and support supply chain deals, working with procurement department to ensure the BU achieves the best potential in terms of supplier arrangements
  • Understand and protect the companies commercial and legal position in relation to its contractual engagement with supply chain arrangements clearly setting out the terms and proposals
  • Oversee and manage the recovery of retrospective rebates with regards
  • Setting annual rebate collection targets
  • Promoting rebate arrangements across group to maximise utilisation
  • Provide pre-tender specialist commercial input as required to ensure accurate net cost pricing
  • Support subcontractor procurement by benchmarking and interrogating costs to ensure additional contribution opportunities are realized (re-invigoration of cost benchmarking database and e-procurement)
  • Attend and participate in Design Team Meetings to influence and steer specifications towards most commercially advantageous products
  • Maintain and publish regular and accurate reports demonstrating the effectiveness of strategic sourcing arrangements and contribution to the group profit improvement / efficiency plan
  • Monitor supplier / category expenditures and trends
  • Build and maintain excellent supplier relations

  • Previous experience of stakeholder management and influencing

  • Leading the development of procurement strategies in close cooperation with business operations and procurement stakeholders activating all spend reduction levers
  • Defining and implementing an action plan to deploy strategies for BUs/entities to effectively reduce their external spend on the category and/or mitigate market increases
  • Steering economic performance (external spend reduction), supplier performance on category
  • Adapting strategy in response to changes (market, internal budgets, technologies)
  • Supporting operational entities in the implementation and monitoring of supplier policy defined for the category
  • Delivering large scale programme such as the renewal of our UK Purchase to Pay system, renegotiation of our mobile telephony contract, appointment of UK LMS system provider, printer transformation programme, etc
  • Assist the Delivery and Commercial teams in efficient subcontract procurement
  • Work to and support supply chain deals, working with procurement department to ensure the BU achieves the best potential in terms of supplier arrangements
  • Understand and protect the companies commercial and legal position in relation to its contractual engagement with supply chain arrangements clearly setting out the terms and proposals
  • Oversee and manage the recovery of retrospective rebates with regards
  • Setting annual rebate collection targets
  • Promoting rebate arrangements across group to maximize utilisation
  • Provide pre-tender specialist commercial input as required to ensure accurate net cost pricing
  • Support subcontractor procurement by benchmarking and interrogating costs to ensure additional contribution opportunities are realized (re-invigoration of cost benchmarking database and e-procurement)
  • Attend and participate in Design Team Meetings to influence and steer specifications towards most commercially advantageous products
  • Maintain and publish regular and accurate reportage demonstrating the effectiveness of strategic sourcing arrangements and contribution to the group profit improvement / efficiency plan
  • Monitor supplier / category expenditures and trends
  • Publish regular product availability status reportage
  • Build and maintain excellent supplier relations
  • Management of the IT procurement team and associated performance including quality of the internal service delivery

Who are we looking for?

  • Previous experience in a Senior Procurement role
  • Previous experience of stakeholder management and influencing
  • Previous experience in developing work winning solutions with operational and business development stakeholders to drive better technical solutions and outcomes
  • Proven commercial acumen, with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract
  • Proven track record in successful negotiations, balancing cost restraints, customer and practical requirements
  • Strong analytical abilities, and the ability to analyse complex category data to drive supply chain selectivity and risk mitigation
  • Being capable of contributing to technical discussions specific to the category and supporting the development of valued engineering or alternative product selection
