Commercial Manager
EQUANS is looking for a Commercial Manager to join our team in London on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.
The role holder will lead the commercial delivery across a portfolio of contracts, working closely with the Account Director. They will provide contract commercial management and profit improvement, risk and opportunity management along with focus on compliance.
The Commercial Manager will manage numerous stakeholder relationships, including external relationships with clients, suppliers and internal BU leadership and functions.
The Commercial Manager will lead commercial management resources to ensure effective and pro-active commercial management of the allocated contracts.
Holding collective responsibility with Account senior management team to improve operations and deliver against financial plans.
What will you deliver?
Has extensive commercial and contracts experience and demonstrable track record of owning and delivering pre and post contract activity, including:
- Defining and/or advising on commercial strategy
- Analysing and managing risk including assessing the revenue opportunity vs. cost and risk
- Managing and securing internal approvals for new bid opportunities
- Managing the commercial viability of variations
- Leading negotiations encompassing multiple disciplines including supplier negotiations and flow-downs
- Excellent knowledge of contract law and its application in services and construction
- Excellent working knowledge of PFI contracts
- Modelling and testing contractual KPIs and Payment Mechanisms
- Sound financial acumen (P&L, cashflow, balance sheet) and good understanding of financial modelling, contract pricing and differing pricing models
- Producing reports and summaries (ad hoc and regular) which articulate key matters for a senior and/or non-commercial audience
- Experienced in defining, driving and overseeing commercial & contract governance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in line management responsibilities of commercial colleagues Taking the Commercial lead with clients directly to identify and resolve variation from the contract deliverables.

Who are we looking for?
- Extensive Commercial/Contractual experience within PFI contracts
- Educated to degree/ diploma level in either Law, Business, Surveying (Building/Quantity), or the Built Environment (FM, Land).
- Understanding and practical application of base UK law applicable to Commercial (Construction Act etc).
- Ideally a member or training to be member of a chartered institution.
- Full understanding of varying contracts PFI payment mechanism
- Able to deal reactively in mitigation key risk areas as they arise and providing support to Finance and Operations to resolve in a timely manner

Commercial Manager
EQUANS is looking for a Commercial Manager to join our on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.
The Commercial Manager will provide an influential pre and post contract commercial management service to a portfolio of contracts. The Commercial Manager will manage numerous stakeholder relationships, including those with client representatives; Equans’s operational teams running the contracts and other colleagues who provide functional support to the contracts (e.g., risk, finance, legal, HR etc.)
What will you deliver?
- Deliver the commercial management function across all contracts and clearly communicate the obligations and liabilities contained within both contracts to ultimately ensure that income is maximised, costs are minimised, whilst the service required is delivered.
- Identifying, monitoring and reporting on risks.
- Supporting the management and mitigation of risks at all levels (operational, financial, commercial, technical, etc).
- Management of variation/change control.
- Repository for confidential/commercially sensitive information.
- Leading governance within the contracts to ensure that the requirements of the contract are being complied with.
- Aiding the quality of service by ensuring awareness of contractual responsibilities among all other EQUANS colleagues (including contract deliverables, scope of services etc.).
- Assisting in the search for efficiencies and service optimisation.
- Enforcing commercial compliance (by audit and support against EQUANS’s Minimum Commercial Standards).
- Supporting the management of cash under their contract sector.
- Being professional and equitable negotiators and dispute resolvers but ultimately: Rebutting unfounded contractual claims. Taking a key role in the management of contractual claims / disputes with clients and other third parties. Production of claims to any potential contentious contractual issue that may arise.
- The requirement to ensure full commercial governance to all subcontractors.
- Supporting the Head of Commercial in the satisfaction of contract and company objectives.
- Taking the Commercial lead with clients directly to identify and resolve variations from the contract deliverables.
- Participating in the contract extension bid governance processes including presenting to Sector Commitment Committee.
- Negotiating, on an equitable basis, internally and externally to ensure that the business is not exposed to risk.

Who are we looking for?
- Suitable commercial experience within a similar industry sector
- Educated to degree/ diploma level in either Surveying (Building/Quantity) or the Built Environment (FM, Land).
- Understanding and practical application of base UK law applicable to Commercial (Construction Act etc).
- Excellent communicator with a proven financial acumen with an ability to analyse complex data and documentation with accuracy.
- Strong negotiation skills
- Sound understanding of risk analysis/management.
- PC Literate with knowledge of MS applications e.g., Word, Excel
- Thorough knowledge and experience of Business Assurance systems.

Commercial Manager
EQUANS is looking for a Commercial Manager to join our team in Scotland on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role offering Hybrid working. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.
The Commercial Manager will be the commercial resource supporting the operational team within a range of Healthcare and Education contracts and partnerships worth in excess of £60m per annum. They will provide contract commercial management services and profit improvement along with focus on compliance. In addition, they may be required to support growth within the Sector on the existing contracts as well as new business development initiatives to extend the suite of contracts in the region.
The Commercial Manager will manage numerous stakeholder relationships, including those with client representatives; EQUANS operational teams running the Contracts and other colleagues who provide functional support to the contracts (e.g. risk, finance, HR etc).
As part of the current contract extension process the Commercial Manager will be required to interact with managers of all levels both internally and within our Client organisations. Senior level dialogue and communication skills are essential in fulfilling this role.
What will you deliver?
To deliver the commercial management function across the partnerships / contracts and clearly communicate the obligations and liabilities contained within both contracts to ultimately ensure that income is maximised, costs are minimised, whilst the service required is delivered, by:
- Support the Commercial Director / Senior Commercial Manager in the satisfaction of contract and company objectives.
- Take the Commercial lead with clients directly to identify and resolve variations from the contract deliverables.
- Identify, monitor and report on risks.
- Support the management and mitigation of risks at all levels (operational, financial, commercial, technical, etc.
- Improve financial performance of the contract through contractual knowledge and improvement.
- Manage variation/change control to capture revenue.
- Repository for confidential/commercially sensitive information.
- Lead governance within the contracts to ensure that the requirements of the contract and EQUANS own internal governance processes are being complied with.
- Aid the quality of service by ensuring awareness of contractual responsibilities among all other EQUANS colleagues (including contract deliverables, scope of service etc.).
- Assist in the search for efficiencies and service optimisation.

- Industry experience in the role of a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager.
- Educated to degree/ diploma level in relevant field.
- Understanding of base UK law applicable to Commercial (Construction Act etc.).
- Excellent financial acumen with an ability to analyse complex data and documentation with accuracy.
- Excellent communicator.
- Skilled negotiator with proven experience in a commercial environment.
- IT skills – MS Office, Excel, Project, Word etc.
