Head of AI/ML

The Head of AI/ML will develop & lead Equans UK&I's strategic initiative to leverage data science, AI and ML applications across our business, transforming how we deliver services to our government, public sector, industrial and commercial clients.
Key activities
- Successfully build a high-performing AI/ML and data science team with the technical capabilities needed to deliver value across the business. Establish effective knowledge sharing and professional development processes within the team
- Transform Equans' approach to data through practical improvements in collection, quality, and accessibility, enabling more effective AI/ML and data science implementation across the business
- Demonstrate ability to rapidly progress AI/ML solutions from concept to deployment
- Successfully deploy high-impact AI/ML solutions across different business units, with clear metrics for technical performance and business value
- Deliver measurable improvements in operational efficiency, service quality, or cost reduction through implemented AI/ML solutions, with documented ROI for each project
- Work across all divisions of Equans UK&I to identify and implement AI/ML solutions that address critical business needs, including building impactful relationships and engagement at both C suite executive and operational level
- Have oversight of multiple concurrent AI/ML implementation projects at various stages of development and deployment
- Collaborate on the development of UK AI/ML strategy, ensure alignment with UK business strategy, and coordinate alignment with individual operating units
Skills, qualifications & experience
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, or related technical field
- Comprehensive knowledge of machine learning algorithms, neural network architectures, deep learning frameworks, and Large Language Models. Proven ability to develop, train, and optimise models for production environments
- Strong foundation in statistics, feature engineering, and experimental design. Ability to transform business problems into well-defined data science problems with appropriate evaluation metrics
- Expertise in designing robust deployment frameworks for machine learning models / large language models, monitoring solutions, and performance optimisation.
- Experience establishing best practices, conducting code reviews, and mentoring others in AI/ML development. Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and research for practical business applications
- Demonstrable experience leading successful AI/ML and data science projects from conception through to implementation, with measurable business impact and user adoption.
- Experience in developing, operationalising and commercialising data-driven products or solutions, particularly those leveraging AI/ML technologies
