EQUANS is looking for a Highway Electrical Engineer (EV) to join our team in Grimsby. This is a 2 year FTC role working full time hours per week plus overtime. On offer is a salary of £30,000 – £34,000 depending on skills and experience and benefits package.

What will you deliver?


The post holder will be part of the Highway Electrical Team , predominantly focussing on the installation of electric vehicle charge points and will contribute to delivery of the Council’s Highway Asset Management Policy and Strategy, and fulfilment of the Council’s responsibilities for maintenance of the highway network, aligned to delivery of local and national objectives, to ensure that the highway network is protected as a valuable asset for future generations.

  • To provide the professional and technical expertise for the Council’s electric vehicle charge points, street lighting stock, illuminated signing and other highway electrical and amenity work.
  • To control and monitor budgets both revenue and capital
  • To prepare detailed design proposals for the implementation of street and amenity lighting schemes and electric vehicle charging points, determining equipment and materials to be used and derive project costs.
  • To deliver the highway electrical maintenance service by supervising and liaising, on a day to day basis, with the Term Maintenance Contractor.  This includes advising on contractual and safety matters and dealing with any complaints from the Public.
  • Prepare and implement an annual electric vehicle (EV) installation programme including programming the works of the contractor and Electricity Provider.
  • Undertake inspections of work upon completion, signing off contractor claims for completed works, and approval of accounts for payment.  Produce ‘as built’ drawings and complete project files and inventory in accordance with office practice.
  • Undertake the role of Designer set out in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations to ensure that projects are safe to construct and use.  Undertake risk assessments during both the design and construction phases of a project and in undertaking surveys and inspections. Liaise with the Planning Supervisor during both the design and construction phase to ensure works are constructed safely.

Who are we looking for?

  • Qualified to HND / HNC Electrical Engineer or relevant associated discipline
  • Have least five years relevant experience in the maintenance of street lighting or EV equipment and in the supervision of lighting contractors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of electricity at Work regulations 1989 and the current Institution of Electrical Engineers Wiring Regulations 18th edition
  • Competent in the understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Traffic Sign Regulations and General Directions 2016 and subsequent amendments, Electrical installations BS7671
  • G39 Certified in Electrical Safety
  • Knowledge of highway asset management systems
  • Supervising and developing a team
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and good practice relating to highways and construction
  • Budget and project management skills which are essential to ensure the effective delivery of the service with limited resources
  • The ability to resolve problems which is essential in dealing with the often-conflicting demands of statutory bodies and services and user groups
  • Previous experience of using design software and databases ideally AutoCAD, symology CMS and Microsoft (Word, Excel, Email)
