EQUANS is looking for a Tax Manager to join our team in Newcastle Upon Tyne on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package. 

This role is based 2 days per week ( preferably Wednesday & Thursday ) at our SSC office on Quorum Business Park – Newcastle Upon Tyne.

We also offer flexible working options with both full-time and part-time options available

The role holder will assist the Head of Tax in managing and providing support on Tax Reporting / Tax Governance / Employment Taxes (including Construction Industry Scheme (“CIS”)) and VAT related work for the Equans UK BU (and potentially other UK companies / branches within the wider Bouygues group)

 

What will you deliver? 

  • Manage preparation and review of Corporate Tax Returns for Equans UK BU and other group businesses with a final review / sign off by UK Head of Tax;
  • Assist Head of Tax to ensure our tax returns, claims & elections etc are filed on or before the relevant deadline(s) with the right amount of tax paid on or before the payment deadline(s);
  • Support Head of Tax and Tax Accountants for the Equans UK BU with review / submission of CIS returns, annual Employment Tax compliance (forms P11d and PAYE Settlement Agreements), UK VAT returns for our VAT registrations (individual entity and group);
  • Manage preparation and review of branch Corporation Tax and VAT returns for our businesses in Eire – liaising with Corporation Finance / Treasury to ensure sufficient funds are available to cover the ROS direct debits;
  • Manage the settlement of Group Relief for Corporation Tax;
  • Assist Head of Tax to manage all cash tax payments to HMRC, namely Corporation Tax GPA, CIS, Class 1A NIC, PSA liabilities and VAT;
  • Work with other Bouygues businesses in the UK to ensure ALL relevant claims and elections (including AIA, Group Relief and R&D) are maximised with NO duplicate claims / reliefs;

External relationships

Continue to develop a close working relationship with:

  • HMRC Large Business (Midlands) team based in Birmingham led by a Customer Compliance Manager (“CCM”) and support the UK Head of Tax in developing HMRC’s understanding of UK BU’s operations in the UK and the wider business outside of the UK; and
  • External tax advisors (currently BDO, KPMG and PWC).

Projects and other areas

Support the UK Head of Tax / Equans colleagues on projects including business development, debt / equity financing, financial modelling, group structure and tax due diligence.

Who are we looking for? 

  • Experience of working “in-house”, using AlphaTax and its group module;
  • Awareness of Employment Taxes, CIS, Stamp Taxes (including SDLT) and VAT;
  • Detailed knowledge of UK Corporation Tax legislation with a focus on Corporate Interest Restriction and pre / post April 2017 losses planning (including group relief / consortium relief);
  • Experience of Tax Reporting for Budgeting and Year End purposes – providing clear guidance to internal and external stakeholders / Group Payment Arrangements and QiP calculations / experience of Tax Accounting for Intangible Assets and Tangible Assets with some experience of Capital Allowance projects /experience of capital gains tax for corporates in the UK desired (capital gains planning for property transactions / Substantial Shareholding Exemption available to trading companies);
  • Able to provide tax advice to the business;
  • Able to use Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Microsoft Teams as a way of keeping in touch with team and colleagues and sharing documents and files;
  • Experience of BEPS (aka “Base Erosion and Profit Shifting”) and the additional tax compliance obligations which applies to a large group with in-bound debt financing For example: CBCR, CFC legislation, Double Tax Treaties and Withholding Tax compliance for EU to UK debt financing and Transfer Pricing (OECD TP guidelines / documentation for both UK to UK and cross border transactions).
  • A focus on UK corporation tax with experience of recent changes in corporate tax legislation and an awareness of current and future legislative changes that EQUANS should consider and plan for.

 

Qualifications: Accountancy (ACA / ACCA) and / or Tax (ATT / CTA) qualifications
