Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in The University of Cambridge, Cambridge on a permanent basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package. 

As a Mechanical Engineer you will be required to have the required skills to ensure the safe and continuous operation of mechanical engineering services and building plant as part of a flexible maintenance team, including specialist subcontractors to deliver work to the highest of standards for our clients.

What will you deliver? 

  • Undertake fault finding and rectification on low pressure heating water systems, critical systems and equipment and pressurised steam systems
  • Work will be assigned, via an electronic system, for planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule or in response to a reactive work order raised by our client
  • To be certified Appointed Person in critical systems, this requires the post holder to be trained, certificated and reassessed at regular intervals
  • To support, advise and action Policy and Safe Working Procedures as a Competent Person (Mechanical)
  • Actively participate in the operation and control of all engineering planned maintenance schemes and undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities to plant
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commission and test in accordance with published procedures
  • Use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works ensuring full compliance
  • Carry out emergency repairs as required (which may require overtime)
  • Obligation to undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques and technology
  • Familiar in the use of Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Recording of planned and reactive maintenance in the site CAFM systems via electronic data devices
  • Interacting positively with the client and their representatives, proactively sharing information with others
  • May require participation on a call out roster, which will include working unsocial hours

Who are we looking for? 


  • Recognised Mechanical/Engineering Apprenticeship – HNC, ONC, City & Guilds, or equivalent experience
  • Competent in fault finding and diagnostics and procurement of spares
  • Maintains and develops knowledge, capability and competence in latest engineering standards and techniques
  • Possess Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels in a clear and concise manner
  • Must have a full clean UK driving licence (Essential)
  • Be willing to provide out of hours cover when required
  • Sufficient knowledge and skill to be able to use computers
  • Be willing to complete role specific training on and off site

This role includes an enhanced DBS check (including barred lists) therefore ability to pass is essential.
