Equans is looking for an Energy Centre Apprentice to join our team in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth on an apprenticeship contract basis. This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a salary of £22,300 per annum and benefits package.

What will you deliver? 

  • Support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust
  • Promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners
  • To assist craftsperson/s with 2 person tasks and where Health & Safety reasons require a second person
  • After suitable training and guidance assist to, diagnose faults, repair and maintain complex equipment in accordance with PSSR and other specialised heating plant
  • Carry out the work of other trades where there is an interface to the work in hand with a level of competence that’s outside core trade
  • To work safely on steam and hot water systems
  • Work in unpleasant working conditions, steam ducts and confined spaces
  • Carry out routine boiler tests and maintenance tasks, after suitable training
  • To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities
  • Work towards City and Guilds steam maintenance, BOAS, qualification

Who are we looking for? 


  • 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (or equivalents) including Maths, English and Science (Essential)
  • Willingness to learn & gain new skills & qualifications
  • Team player
  • Ability to take on new challenges and constantly seek to improve


This role includes a standard DBS check therefore ability to pass is essential.
