Equans is looking for an Assistant Technical Manager (Electrical Bias) to join our team at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive banding of £38,000-£41,000, dependant upon skills and experience, and benefits package.
The purpose of the role is to assist the Technical Manager in delivering an efficient and effective operation and maintenance of hospital HV & LV electrical systems, and the promotion of good engineering practices whilst ensuring compliance to statutory and healthcare engineering.
The ideal candidate will have an electrical engineering background, be driven and hungry to progress and develop. We are keen to talk to any Lead Electricians or Supervisors looking for their next challenge.
The role includes an out of hours on call roster as well as AP responsibilities which offer a financial uplift.
What will you deliver?
- Ensure safe systems of work are used, in line with HTM’s, recognised codes of practice, Equans quality (ISO 9001) system and all statutory legislation such as Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, Electricity at Work Act, etc.
- Carry out the duties of Authorised Person, for the systems assigned to you (following training, assessment and formal appointment).
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the engineering systems under your control, ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.
- Support the estates management team in the provision of a 24hr maintenance service, within the Portsmouth University NHS Hospital, for the SPV.
- To provide technical support in resolving complex issues with regards to the estate infrastructure.
- Monitor equipment maintenance records / service reports to ensure any follow-on action is completed promptly, and recorded within the CAFM system and associated documentation for systems under your control.
- Manage and oversee external sub-contractors and other professionals.
- Ensure that contractor and in-house engineering team are competency checked and they are appointed as Competent Persons as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with other stakeholders, i.e. Technical Managers, Engineering Manager, Senior Operations manager, Head of Estates and site delivery teams.
- To work in areas occupied by patients and staff, having regard for the health, safety, dignity and confidentiality of occupants within that area, and to the Data Protection Act.
- To carry out any other such reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post, as may be determined by the Head of Estates.
- Promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners and to liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues if required.

Who are we looking for?
- ONC/HND in an engineering discipline (or equivalent)
- Good customer care and flexible approach to working practices
- Strong Electrical background
- 18th Edition BS7671
- City & Guilds 2391 Inspect & Test
- Excellent contractor management skills
This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
