EQUANS is looking for a Technical Manager & Authorising Engineer (Water Hygiene/Mechanical Systems) to join our team on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. This is a senior role within the Technical Services Division central Engineering function. The successful candidate will lead on requests for Water Hygiene and Mechanical support across the region and will be responsible for setting standards in the Water Hygiene and Mechanical disciplines, plus assessing and appointing person into defined roles under the Equans Safety Rules and where required undertaking audits.
We are looking for a highly competent Water Hygiene specialist with Mechanical Engineering skills currently operating as a Technical Manager or Supervisor, who is ready for the next step. You’ll be joining a dynamic and growing central engineering function, with the ability to work autonomously, and sculpt the future of the support we offer. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled and knowledgeable in Water Hygiene i.e. predominantly the requirements of L8, but any knowledge of S/HTM 04-01 and experience within a healthcare environment will be an advantage, but will also have mechanical trade qualifications.
What will you deliver?
- Ensure the EQUANS Safe Systems of Work for Mechanical Systems (Pressure Systems and other hazardous Mechanical Systems) and Water are managed and adhered to by our field operational teams together with the specific requirements of S/HTM 04-01 for water in healthcare environments and SHTM 08-08 for Mechanical Systems in Scotland. Carry out technical training and Assessments/Appointments as governed by the various safety rules and S/HTM.
- In time the successful candidate will further develop their role in the disciplines of FGas and Confined Spaces.
- The successful candidate will have significant expertise in the management and control of complex Water Hygiene issues, and a working understanding of Mechanical systems in a manufacturing, industrial, defence, commercial and/or healthcare environment, and will use that experience to help drive up standards across the Division.
- Work within the wider Technical Team to define, implement, monitor and audit our Safe Systems of Work. By doing so the post holder will be helping to ensure that EQUANS operations are compliant across a range of different disciplines and against a range of different legislation or standards, even those disciplines where an AE isn’t strictly required.
- In addition, the role will provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) support across the business including into bids, projects, new opportunities and day to day operational support, including advice and guidance on best practice standards, system and operational asset performance improvements.
- Compliance assurance will be a key feature of this role, with the need for multi-site Technical and Authorising Engineer audits, requiring the ability and skills to work on own initiative, drawing on experience and guidance from the Head of Technical/Co-ordinating AE.
- Promote EQUANS within the wider market by providing representation/attendance at various seminars, trade events etc.
- The post holder must be proficient at drafting technical reports, be able to support and actively lead accident or operational incident investigations, that may have caused injury to personnel or an interruption to our customer’s operations.
- Be able to support in house training deployment needs to inform our technical resources across our contracts by deliver current training packages, and identify opportunities to enhance on these, in collaboration with operational colleagues.

Who are we looking for?
Essential
- Significant Water Hygiene management experience
- Authorised Person (or similar level) in Mechanical/Pressure Discipline
- Isolation and maintenance of Steam or/and High/Medium Temperature Hot Water experience
- The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (current edition)
- Relevant Trade Qualifications or Apprenticeship
- Permit to Work, Risk Assessment and Method Statement experience
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory, legislative requirements and British Standards as applicable
Desirable
- Authorising Engineer Qualification via recognised training body
- Confined Space management/awareness
- Health and Safety Qualification (IOSH/NEBOSH) or equivalent
- Commercial and or Domestic Gas Qualifications
- FGas Category 1 or 2 qualifications
- BOAS Qualification
- The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (current edition)
- First Aid training
- Auditing Training or previous experience
- Accident and Incident investigation training or experience including report writing
- Healthcare experience
