Equans is looking for a Mobile Electrical Engineer to join our team in Newcastle upon Tyne – this is a permanent role for our ETS/Newcastle Helix contract. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company van and benefits package.

General Overview

This is a role for a suitably experienced and qualified Electrical Engineer.
Supported by a strong multi-skilled operational team, the focus will be operating and maintaining the plant and equipment and improving the efficiencies of the Edinburgh St James Quarter and Newcastle Helix Energy District Network Schemes. Both have gas fired CHP engines, gas fired low temperature hot water boilers and chillers as a means of supply of heating, cooling and electricity, as well as a range of ancillary electrical and mechanical equipment to a range of consumers.

Your primary area of responsibility will be our brand-new Energy Centre at the new Saint James Quarter Shopping Centre. You will be working daytime office hours, Monday to Friday, with responsibility for both Energy Centres on a 1 in 4 call out.

You will be expected, once suitably trained and competent, to undertake the roles of Low Voltage Appointed Persons, and High Voltage Appointed Persons for both our Energy Centres.

• District Heating / Energy background
• Heavy Industrial background
• Marine Engineering background
• Manufacturing / Production background
• Energy Generation background
• Service Engineers for Boilers, Chillers, Gas Fired Engines.

Requirements:

• Demonstrate the ability to maintain plant and equipment to agreed specifications and operation

• Have an in-depth knowledge of the relevant individual contracts
• Ensure paperwork is up to date and correctly completed
• Ensure all jobs are closed down promptly in our CMMS System.
• Understand and apply relevant legislation.

Impact:

• Carry out the defined planned maintenance regime for all contractual obligations within the energy centers and the network substations.
• Carry out LV/HV related activities including switching and isolations.
• Ensure Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) are in place.
• Issuing of Permit to Work.
• Carry out repairs, reactive maintenance and minor installation works on plant.
• Attend, diagnose and repair faults having due regard to customer care in this specific environment.
• Carry out proactive plant monitoring activities to ensure efficient utilization of plant and equipment
• Interrogation of operational information systems to support daily operations as well as fault diagnosis
• Complete the relevant paperwork and report diligently.
• Any other relevant duties that may be required, some of which may be outside normal working hours.

• Maintain all documentation and records to the highest standard
• Understand the contracts and obligations
• Project a professional image of EQUANS to external and internal customers, this is to include clear channels of communication
• Other tasks as directed by Line Management

All activities are expected to improve over time.

Qualifications or Required Experience:

• 17th /18th Edition Electrical Engineer, with Industrial Experience preferred.
• Qualified Electrical Engineer, High Voltage Switching experience preferred, but not essential training will be provided for the correct candidate.
• Solid Electrical fault-finding and practical skills required.
• Experience of working with Heat / Electrical Generation plant preferred.
• Experience with Trend / Tridium desired, but not essential.
• Good working knowledge of Risk assessments and Method statements (Write and Review)
• Have experience of Permit to Work systems.
• Able to work unsupervised and function as part of a team
• Very strong Excel and IT skills
• Driving License essential
